Description

The traditional American Buttercream; it's sweet, creamy, and perfect for topping cupcakes.

Ingredients

4 c
Powdered Sugar (Sifted)
1⁄4 t
Salt
1⁄4 c
Milk
1 t
Vanilla Extract
33⁄100 c
Butter (Softened)
33⁄50 c
Shortening (Softened)

Instructions

Cream the butter and shortening with the salt. Mix in the powdered sugar. Then add the milk and vanilla. Beat until creamy without over-mixing.

Notes

This a versatile recipe that can be modified or customized in a variety of ways. - Substitute peanut butter for the butter- Add 1/2 cup cocoa powder- Substitute fresh orange juice for the milk, add 1 tsp orange zest- Substitute 3 Tbsp Maraschino Cherry Juice for the milk, add 1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries- Add 1.5-2 tsp ground cinnamonThis recipe makes enough to frost 24 cupcakes. Double to cover and decorate a 9x13" cake.
